Bali Hai
This mixed media collage was inspired by a song from the 1949 Broadway musical South Pacific. I chose an abstract composition in a style reminiscent of mid-century Art Moderne featuring an ad found in a 1952 newspaper. I selected materials that conveyed my idea of a tropical stage set and costumes. I used dried leaves of the ginger plant as a backdrop. I then added recycled veneer, straw hats, mai tai parasol, and vintage buttons dating to the 1950's.
