Rock Garden
Not only is beauty "in the eye of the beholder", it must be in the mind as well. A strange beauty can often be found within the most dire circumstances. This collage is an example of a garden planted with seeds of despair.
The background is a discarded bed sheet stained by Mother Nature. The flowers, leaves and rock shadows are tattered rags from clothing. All were the results of an eviction. The rocks are broken pieces of weathered wallboard from a demolition. (please note: all materials have been cleaned and sterilized)
The most important message my mentor impressed upon me so many years ago was to "always look for the flowers among the garbage". It is probably why I eventually turned to this form of expression; 'found object' art.
