The Great Divide
Never have Americans been as greatly divided since the Civil War nearly 160 years ago. It is much more than a political disagreement. In addition to our ever-increasing economics disparities, it is now a struggle of two very different ideologies.
I have represented both blue collar workers and white collar elites as truly patriotic Americans. Each faction sincerely truly wants the best for the country, but their extremist fringes dispel any hope of compromise. Within the gap between the shirts are newspaper photos underscoring this theme. The necktie crossing the bandana reflects Americans' cross-purposes, yet perhaps it also hints at a future reconciliation.
I selected the title The Great Divide as it is a term used by historians to refer to our time of great peril in the 1860's.
This piece was created on cradled hardboard and is within a black painted wood shadow frame ready to hang.
