The Old Homestead
Imagine yourself walking down a winding dirt road in the countryside. Suddenly a clearing opens before you. There lay the remains of a simple rustic life. Careful not to snag your jeans on the rusty wire of a fallen fence, you approach the abandoned farmhouse. Climbing unto the sagging porch the weathered wicker chairs greet you. Looking up you notice an empty birds nest in the eaves. Through the broken pane of glass, a dingy lace curtain floats in the breeze. Peering into the darkness you see the falling plaster and peeling paint of a parlor once filled with laughter and love. Scattered over the bare floorboards are photos, postcards, and sheet music. There is no feeling of sadness in the air, but rather a wistful resignation that everything must eventually pass into memory. As you leave the shadows behind, a sweet voice whispers, “Thank you for stopping by. Come again soon”. Perhaps it was only the rustling of leaves … or an artist's imagination.
